Dr. Phoebe Whitman is a Senior Lecturer and spatial practitioner at RMIT University's School of Architecture and Urban Design. She serves as Program Manager for the Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) program and Executive Director of IDEA (Interior Design Educators Association of Australia and New Zealand). Her research focuses on material-led practices, site responsiveness, and the entanglements between bodies, ecologies, and matter through installations, interventions, and teaching.
Education: BA Fine Art Painting (RMIT, 1999), BD Interior Design (RMIT, 2005), PhD 'Surface Encounter' (RMIT, 2021). Teaching roles include coordination of final-year projects and research strategies, with a pedagogical emphasis on process-led experimentation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Research interests span exhibition design, assemblage theory, ephemeralities, and ecological relations. Awards include recognitions for curriculum innovation and first-year teaching excellence. Current supervision projects explore temporalities in design and urban interior sensory devices.
