Professor Lei Chen is the Chair of International Arbitration and Chinese Law at Durham Law School, Durham University, and Deputy Dean for Strategic Development and Internationalisation. He holds adjunct positions at City University of Hong Kong, University of Galway, and Shandong University, among others. His research focuses on comparative private law, international arbitration, and property law. He has authored several books and secured multiple grants, including four General Research Funds from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council.
Education: LLB (Common Law), LLB (Chinese Law), LLM, PhD. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, European Academy of Sciences and Arts, and European Law Institute. He leads the Durham International Dispute Resolution Institute (DIDRI) and advises global organizations on legal frameworks. His recent work includes analyzing the Chinese Civil Code and pandemic-related legal responses. Awards include editorial roles at prestigious journals and international recognition in comparative law.
