Dr. Laurie Henry serves as Dean of the Seidel School of Education and Professor of Literacy Studies at Salisbury University in Maryland. She joined Salisbury's leadership team in 2018 after spending 11 years at the University of Kentucky. Originally from Connecticut, Dr. Henry began her career as a middle school teacher before transitioning into higher education and academic leadership.
Dr. Henry's research focuses on community-based literacy programs, educational innovation, teacher preparation, and clinical practice experiences. Her work addresses pressing challenges in education with particular attention to social justice and equity issues. She has examined literacy development across diverse populations including early childhood learners, incarcerated youth, immigrants, and indigenous communities.
Her recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on practical applications of literacy education in community settings.
