Dr. Laurie Kingsley is a Teaching Professor of Literacy and Assistant Dean of Teacher Education in the College of Education & Human Development at the University of Missouri. She teaches literacy courses in the Senior Year On-Site Program (SYOSP) for Elementary Education majors and collaborates extensively with educators across Missouri to enhance teaching practices and program development.
Her research focuses on preservice and inservice teacher education, particularly the influences on teacher beliefs, knowledge, and instructional practices. She is currently investigating the impacts of student teaching models on preservice teacher development and the effects of politics and policies on literacy education. Her expertise also includes the diversification of the teaching profession and data-informed literacy instruction.
Laurie has over two decades of experience working directly with Missouri school districts, designing specialized workshops and in-service programs to improve literacy instruction. Her work emphasizes classroom-based assessment and data use to strengthen teaching and student learning outcomes.
She serves on the editorial review board for the International Literacy Association journal Literacy Research: Theory, Methods and Practice and is the faculty supervisor for the student reading association. Her contributions to teaching excellence have been recognized with several teaching awards.
