Dr Laura Sbaffi is a Senior Lecturer in Health Informatics at the School of Information, Journalism and Communication at The University of Sheffield. She holds a BSc and MSc from the University of Urbino, an MA in Library and Information Management from Manchester Metropolitan University, and a PhD from the University of Trieste. Her roles include Head of the Health Informatics Research Group, Unfair Means Officer, and member of the Senate Discipline Panel.
Her research focuses on digital trust in health information, informal caregiver support, ICT solutions for shared health records, and reducing information overload in healthcare workers. Current projects include addressing caregiver needs in Malawi and Uganda, and exploring strategies for emergency medicine professionals. She also investigates open access publishing trends and research data management policies in China.
Dr Sbaffi has led a Wellcome Trust-funded project on data sharing consent and collaborates with organizations like Ashfield Insight. She teaches at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervises PhD students in health informatics and related fields. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to address challenges in global health, technology adoption, and academic integrity.
Recent grants include a GCRF QR grant for caregiver research in Malawi and Uganda. She actively publishes on topics ranging from AI in healthcare to pandemic response strategies, and her teaching emphasizes information literacy in digital environments.
