Rebecca Jopling is a Research Fellow and Project Manager in Health Service & Population Research, specializing in mental health and HIV interventions within low-resource African contexts. Her collaborative work spans institutions in Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Malawi, supported by UK research councils including MRC and UKRI GCRF.
Her research focuses on integrating mental health care into HIV treatment frameworks, particularly examining antiretroviral therapy adherence barriers among emerging adults, school-based depression interventions for adolescents, and task-sharing models utilizing lay counselors. Key methodological approaches include randomized controlled trials, qualitative studies on stigma and social barriers, and implementation research for scalable solutions in resource-constrained settings.
Recent publications (2021-2025) demonstrate consistent thematic focus on depression-HIV comorbidity management in sub-Saharan Africa, with increasing emphasis on youth populations and community-based delivery systems. Her work prioritizes contextually adapted interventions that address cultural, structural, and psychosocial determinants of health.
Dr. Jopling secured primary investigator funding for the UKRI GCRF Malawi project (2022-2023) targeting research consolidation, and co-investigator roles in MRC-funded initiatives (2020-2022) developing partner-engaged HIV self-testing interventions for pregnant women. Her grant portfolio reflects expertise in managing complex international health research with practical implementation goals.
