Laura Mulligan Thomas is Instructor of String Music Education at James Madison University's School of Music. She holds a master's in conducting from Shenandoah Conservatory and graduated with honors from JMU. Previously directed Charlottesville High School Orchestra for 40 years, growing the program from 8 to 100 students with national recognition.
Teaching focuses on string pedagogy and ensemble direction. Additional roles include conducting the Youth Symphony of Central Virginia and professional chamber performances. Research interests center on string education methodologies and ensemble development.
