Kimberly Souther is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Orchestras in the Department of Performing Arts at Clemson University's College of Arts and Humanities. She conducts the Clemson University Symphony Orchestra, String Orchestra, and Musical Pit Orchestra while teaching courses including History of American Music.
Her research focuses on sustaining orchestras through creative audience engagement, emphasizing connection and accessibility for symphony orchestra audiences in the United States. With extensive conducting experience across symphonic, chamber, opera, and musical theatre genres, she brings an eclectic programming approach influenced by her involvement with the Silk Road Ensemble and global musician workshops.
Prior to Clemson, she served as an adjunct instructor and graduate student at James Madison University, conducted the Shenandoah Valley Youth Concert Orchestra and Nelson County Community Orchestra, and directed Shenandoah Valley Preparatory Music (managing 30+ staff serving over 600 students). She has also guest conducted for Sinfonietta Memphis, Wintergreen Music Festival, Four County Players, and Peninsula Players.
