Laura J. Morrison, MD, FAAHPM, FACP, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Yale School of Medicine, specializing in Geriatrics and Palliative Care. She serves as Associate Chief of Palliative Care, Director of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Education, and Director of the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship at Yale. Her roles include leading the Yale Serious Illness Communication Program and contributing to national standards for palliative care training.
Dr. Morrison graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine (1997), completed residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center, and fellowship in Geriatrics and Palliative Care at Baylor College of Medicine. She has held faculty positions at Houston Methodist Hospital before joining Yale.
Her research focuses on improving palliative care education, communication skills training, and healthcare provider resilience. Recent work emphasizes telehealth applications in palliative care, competency frameworks for fellows, and microaggression response strategies in clinical environments.
Notable achievements include the 2024 Visionary in Hospice and Palliative Care award and the Rosemarie L. Fisher Graduate Medical Education Excellence Award. She oversees the Palliative Care Consultation Service at Yale-New Haven Hospital and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams across Yale’s medical system.
