Dmitry Kozhevnikov, DO, is an Assistant Professor in General Internal Medicine and Director of Smilow Ambulatory Palliative Care at Yale New Haven Hospital’s Smilow Cancer Center. He serves as Associate Program Director of the Yale Hospice & Palliative Medicine Fellowship. His academic roles include clinician educator, focusing on medical student, resident, and fellow training in communication skills for patients with advanced illness.
Education: Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (2014), residency at Northwell Health-Lenox Hill Hospital (2017), and fellowship at Yale School of Medicine (2018).
Research interests include palliative care symptom management, hospice utilization, and simulation-based medical education. He developed the MADLI curriculum for acute decompensation training and published on ketamine for refractory cancer pain. Awards include the 2016 Susan and Herman Merinoff Palliative Medicine Award.
Teaching emphasizes safe communication practices via simulated patient encounters. Collaborates with Laura Morrison, Matthew Ellman, and Brett Prestia on quality improvement and clinical research projects. Active in Yale Cancer Center’s palliative care initiatives.
