Denise Mohess, MBBS, FAAHPM, is an Associate Clinical Professor in Geriatric Medicine at Yale School of Medicine. Her clinical expertise focuses on geriatric care and hospice/palliative medicine, emphasizing patient-centered approaches for older adults. She holds board certifications in Geriatric Medicine (ABIM, 2008) and Hospice & Palliative Medicine (ABIM, 2009). Dr. Mohess graduated from the University of the West Indies (MBBS, 2001), completed Internal Medicine residency at Jefferson Abington Hospital (2007), and trained in Geriatric Medicine at University of Pennsylvania and Hospice/Palliative Medicine at Icahn School of Medicine.
Her research prioritizes healthcare communication, including virtual communication strategies, managing patient bias, and teaching uncertainty communication to trainees. She has developed innovative curricula addressing pandemic-era telemedicine challenges and interprofessional collaboration. Dr. Mohess actively contributes to professional organizations like the American Geriatrics Society and integrates diversity/equity principles into her work.
Professional recognitions include the Inova Health System’s Subspecialist of the Quarter (2019) and Catholic Health Association’s Tomorrow’s Leader Award (2013). She serves on multiple committees within Yale New Haven Health System, focusing on clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
