Laura Adley

Laura Adley is Deputy Head of School in the School of Nursing at Anglia Ruskin University, part of the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Social Care. She is a registered children’s nurse with a clinical background in pediatric oncology and teenage and young adult (TYA) cancer care, and transitioned into higher education in 2016 after a distinguished clinical career in London.

Laura’s research focuses on student nurses’ mental health in clinical practice, which forms the basis of her ongoing Education Doctorate, and on teenage and young adult cancer care. Her clinical work centered on chemotherapy, supportive care, and stem cell transplantation, with a special interest in developing adolescent-friendly care models. She played a key role in establishing the UK’s first ambulatory cancer treatment service for TYAs, emphasizing independence and development during treatment.

Her recent publications and presentations explore ambulatory care models, self-monitoring in TYA oncology, and caregiver burden. These works reflect a consistent focus on improving clinical practice, patient experience, and team dynamics in specialized pediatric oncology settings.

Laura is actively involved in teaching the pre-registration nursing curriculum across all fields, supervises BSc and MSc students in Children’s Nursing and Advanced Practice, and serves as a Personal Tutor and Link Lecturer.
