Larry Sider is a Senior Lecturer in Sound Recording and Design at the Department of Media, Communications and Cultural Studies at Goldsmiths, University of London. With over thirty years of experience, he specializes in sound design, post-production, and audio for documentary, animation, and fiction filmmaking. He is the Convenor for MA Filmmaking (Sound Recording, Post-Production and Design) and MA Film Sound.
He has collaborated with renowned artists like the Quay Brothers and filmmaker Patrick Keiller. Previously, he served as Head of Editing, Sound and Music at the National Film and Television School (UK) and co-edited the peer-reviewed journal The New Soundtrack (2008–2018). He is currently co-authoring a book on film sound philosophy and directs the biennial School of Sound International Symposium, exploring sound's role across arts and media.
His projects include EU-funded initiatives such as the EPAS postgraduate program and the LISTEN research project with Fraunhofer, developing audio-augmented environments. He advocates for sound's critical role in screen production and has published works like Soundscape: The School of Sound Lectures.
His work spans academic teaching, industry collaboration, and research, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to sound in media.
