Lado Chanturia

Lado Chanturia is a Full Professor of Private and Comparative Law at Tbilisi State University (since 1995) and a Judge of the European Court for Human Rights in Strasbourg (since 2018). He has held prominent roles including Ambassador of Georgia to Germany (2014–2018), President of Georgia’s Supreme Court (1999–2004), and Minister of Justice of Georgia (1998–1999).

• Research Focus: Comparative law, international human rights law, private law, and civil/economic law frameworks in Central Asia and the Caucasus.

His scholarly work spans over 230 publications, including books, legal manuals, and law commentaries. He has received multiple international honors, such as the Grosse Bundesverdienstkreuz and the ABA/CEELI Reformer’s Award.
