Kyle Jaros is an Associate Professor of Global Affairs at the University of Notre Dame's Keough School of Global Affairs, with a concurrent appointment in the Department of Political Science. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Government from Harvard University, an A.B. in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University, and a graduate certificate in Chinese studies from the Hopkins-Nanjing Center. Previously, he served as associate professor at the University of Oxford’s School of Global and Area Studies and as a China Public Policy Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Kennedy School's Ash Center.
His research focuses on Chinese politics and political economy, urban and regional development, intergovernmental relations, and subnational diplomacy with particular emphasis on US-China relations. Current work examines subnational interactions amid bilateral tensions, with ongoing book projects analyzing city-level relations and state-level policies. Research interests span spatial development politics, territorial restructuring, and the intersection of local governance with international geopolitics.
Jaros's publications consistently explore themes of subnational governance in China, US-China subnational diplomacy, and urban/regional development politics. Recent works analyze how geopolitical tensions manifest in local policies, territorial reforms in Chinese cities, and strategies for sustaining subnational engagement during bilateral conflicts. His scholarship demonstrates a consistent focus on multilevel governance dynamics.

As faculty fellow of Notre Dame's Liu Institute for Asia and Asian Studies, Pulte Institute for Global Development, and Kellogg Institute for International Studies, he contributes to interdisciplinary research initiatives on global affairs.
