Suisheng Zhao is a Professor and Executive Director of the China Center at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver. He is also a Campbell National Fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution. His research focuses on Chinese foreign policy, US-China relations, and global governance. Zhao holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from UC San Diego, an M.A. in Sociology from the University of Missouri, and BA/MA in Economics from Peking University.
He founded and edits the Journal of Contemporary China, with over 25 books and hundreds of articles to his name. His 2023 book The Dragon Roars Back was recognized by Foreign Affairs as one of 2024's best books. His work analyzes Xi Jinping's leadership, China's global ambitions, and strategic dynamics in East Asia.
Zhao's research highlights topics like China's Belt and Road Initiative, Taiwan Strait tensions, and US-China rivalry. He explores how China navigates global challenges such as pandemic diplomacy and geopolitical shifts. His awards reflect scholarly impact in international relations and Chinese studies.
