Dr. Kui Xie is the Red Cedar Distinguished Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education at Michigan State University (MSU). Previously, he held the Ted and Lois Cyphert Distinguished Professorship and directed the Research Laboratory for Digital Learning at The Ohio State University. His academic career focuses on translational research bridging K-12 schools and educational technology, emphasizing motivation, engagement, and technology integration in learning environments.
Education: Ph.D., University of Oklahoma.
Research interests include digital learning ecosystems, teacher professional development, learning analytics, and the sociotechnical dynamics of online education. His work has been featured in prominent media outlets like The Conversation and NPR, reflecting its societal impact.
As an associate editor for The Internet and Higher Education and Frontiers in Psychology, he contributes to advancing scholarly discourse in educational technology and psychology. His research spans topics like student engagement in blended learning, AI-assisted assessment, and the role of social knowledge networks in connectivist learning.
