Trixie Long Smith

Trixie Long Smith is a Professor in the Department of Writing, Rhetoric, and Cultures at Michigan State University (MSU) and holds affiliations with the Center for Gender in Global Context and the Alliance for African Partners. She serves as Director of The Writing Center and the Red Cedar Writing Project. Since joining MSU in 2007, she has taught diverse courses emphasizing writing center theory, WAC/WID (Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines), and rhetoric.

Research Interests: Her work integrates cultural rhetorics, embodiment, and community engagement with writing pedagogy and teacher training. She explores intersections of gender, queerness, and activism, advocating for human-centered approaches to education that acknowledge students' lived experiences beyond academia. Her philosophy emphasizes collaborative learning and the role of empathy in teaching.

Committees and Leadership: She has held roles on the CCCC Executive Committee, ECWCA, IWCA, MiWCA, and the NCTE. Her involvement highlights commitments to professional writing networks and gender studies at local, regional, and international levels.
