Alicia K. Hatcher is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Writing Studies, Rhetoric, and Composition at Syracuse University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She joined in Fall 2022 as a tenure-track faculty member, specializing in African American Rhetorics and Literacies. Her research focuses on Black rhetorical practices, particularly analyzing symbolic resistance by Black athletes through frameworks like her 'Performative Symbolic Resistance' theory.

Her work bridges academic and activist spaces, advocating for inclusive pedagogies and social justice advocacy.
Recent Trends in Scholarship: Recent publications explore Kaepernick’s protests, tactical uses of public space, and Black athlete activism. Her work intersects rhetoric, visual culture, and social justice, often employing qualitative methods like ethnography and discourse analysis.
