Raúl Sánchez is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of Florida, with affiliate membership in the Center for Latin American Studies. He holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in English from the University of South Florida, specializing in Rhetoric and Composition, and a B.A. in English from the University of Tampa.
His research focuses on decolonial theory's impact on Composition and Rhetoric, with expertise in cultural studies, critical theory, and Latinx studies. He co-edited Decolonizing Rhetoric and Composition Studies and authored Inside the Subject: A Theory of Identity for the Study of Writing.
Dr. Sánchez teaches courses in argumentative writing, professional communication, critical theory, and cultural studies. He has chaired dissertation committees for Christopher Hazlett, Sam Hamilton, William Walter, and Richard Paez. His publications analyze identity construction, pedagogical innovations, and decolonial approaches in writing studies.
Administratively, he served as Director of Writing Programs/General Education at UF and held editorial roles for College Composition and Communication and CCCC Studies in Writing and Rhetoric. He is fluent in Spanish and maintains active memberships in NCTE, CCCC, and the Latino Caucus of NCTE.
