Dr. Constance Haywood is an Assistant Professor in the Department of English at East Carolina University (ECU). Her research focuses on Black feminist theory, digital rhetoric, and ethical research methodologies that center Black women's knowledge practices. She emphasizes social justice in digital research involving marginalized communities. Haywood holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric & Writing from Michigan State University (2022), an M.A. in English Studies from ECU (2015), and a B.A. in English from ECU (2011). She teaches courses such as ENGL 1100, ENGL 2201, ENGL 3880, and ENGL 4885.
Her work bridges Black feminist theory with digital ethics, advocating for methodologies rooted in reciprocity and community engagement. Recent publications include a forthcoming chapter in Methods and Methodologies for Research in Digital Writing and Rhetoric and a book review in Computers and Composition. Haywood is a member of the Black Technical and Professional Task Force, NCTE, and CCCC Black Caucus.
Her presentations include discussions on digital research ethics at the 2022 Computers and Writing Conference and a panel on Black technical communication at Virginia Tech.
