Dr. Kimberly Wieser is an Associate Professor of English at the University of Oklahoma, serving as Undergraduate Director and affiliated with Native American Studies and Environmental Studies. She directs the Native Writers Circle of the Americas and co-chairs the NCTE/CCCC American Indian Caucus. Her research focuses on American Indian rhetorics, literatures, and gender studies, emphasizing decolonial frameworks and cultural sovereignty. She has authored award-winning books including Back to the Blanket (2017, NWCA First Books Award) and edited volumes such as Indians, Oil, & Water (2021).
Her creative works include poetry collections like Texas . . . to Get Horses (2019) and screenwriting roles in AMC’s The Son. She co-edits Constellations: A Cultural Rhetorics Publishing Space and has secured grants from the OU Faculty Investment Program and Arts & Humanities Forum. Notable collaborations include work with Joy Harjo and Honorèe Fanonne Jeffers.
Her academic articles span rhetorical sovereignty, Indigenous pedagogies, and intersectional identity politics. She mentors doctoral students like Brian Daffron and advocates for racial equity in academia through symposia like “Diversity is Not Justice” (2020).
