Michele Moyd is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Michigan State University (MSU), within the College of Social Science. She previously held the Ruth N. Halls Associate Professor position at Indiana University, Bloomington. Her research focuses on African military history, colonialism, and the First World War, with a particular emphasis on soldiering and everyday colonial experiences. She earned her Ph.D. in History from Cornell University in 2008 and has held fellowships at the University of Texas–Austin and the International Research Center in Berlin.

Her research explores the social and cultural dimensions of African soldiers (askari) in German East Africa and their roles during the First World War. She co-authored Linguistic Disobedience, examining civic language and power dynamics. Moyd teaches courses on African history, World War I, and humanitarianism.
Awards: Red Cedar Distinguished Faculty member at MSU.
Advising & Grants: Her work has been supported by residential fellowships. She mentors students in African historiography and global military studies.
