Kristen Renn is a University Distinguished Professor and Red Cedar Distinguished Professor in the Department of Educational Administration at Michigan State University (MSU). She also serves as associate dean of undergraduate studies for student success research and previously held the Mildred B. Erickson Distinguished Chair in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) from 2014 to 2021. Her academic career spans roles at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, and Brown University's Office of Student Life.

Dr. Renn's research focuses on college student success, identity development, and equity in higher education, particularly for low-income, first-generation, and LGBTQ+ students. She has led initiatives through the Spencer Foundation and co-led grants targeting underrepresented student populations. Her leadership roles include Associate Editor for International Research at the Journal of College Student Development, governance positions in AERA, ACPA, and ASHE, and chairing the AERA standing committee Scholars and Advocates for Gender Equity.
