Dr. Kristin Miller is an Associate Professor of Bioengineering at The University of Texas at Dallas, holding a joint appointment in Mechanical Engineering and Bioengineering. She previously served as an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University. Her research focuses on the mechanobiology of soft tissues, particularly the role of elastic fibers and contractility in the female reproductive system. She earned her BS from Texas A&M (2007), PhD from the University of Pennsylvania (2012), and completed a postdoc at Yale University (2014).
Her research interests include biomechanics, mechanobiology, reproductive health, growth and remodeling, and tissue engineering. Notable achievements include the NSF CAREER Award (2018) for developing biomechanical models of elastic fibers in reproductive tissues and the YC Fung Early Career Award (2021) from ASME. Current openings are available for students and researchers to join her lab in this emerging field.
Her work bridges engineering and medicine, with a focus on pelvic organ prolapse, aging effects on tissues, and regenerative strategies. Collaborations involve computational modeling and advanced imaging techniques like iSPIM microscopy. Ongoing projects investigate collagen organization in FBLN5-deficient mice and the biomechanical function of the murine cervix.
