She holds a BA from Trent University, an MA from Queen's University, and a PhD in Canadian Studies from Trent University. Her research focuses on intersections of physical culture, gender, aging, and national identity, particularly examining how hockey and curling shape Canadian masculine identities. She explores how these sports reinforce or challenge dominant narratives about aging, marginalization, and national belonging through projects like 'The Curling Project' and analyses of media representations.
Teaching courses include Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Sport, and Men and Masculinities. Her work bridges academia and public engagement through knowledge mobilization projects with sport organizations and government stakeholders. Current research investigates women's roles in the Canadian Hockey League and later-life physical activity's impact on gendered embodiment.
Publications span journals like International Review for the Sociology of Sport and Sociology of Sport Journal, with a focus on aging masculinities and sport's cultural symbolism. She produced the podcast 'Fire on the Ice,' exploring generational shifts in curling culture. Her research emphasizes marginalized groups' experiences and how power operates through everyday physical practices.
