Daniel Alsarve is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Health Sciences at Örebro University, holding the title of Associate Professor (Docent) in Sports Science since 2021. He earned his Ph.D. in History in 2014 and is a certified upper secondary school teacher in Swedish and History. He serves as an expert on gender equality and masculinity at RF-SISU Örebro County since 2014.

His research focuses on sport, gender, violence, democracy, and power from the early 20th century onward. Methodologically diverse, his work addresses hegemonic masculinity, violence prevention, and gender equality in sports. Recent projects include studies on ice hockey cultures, digital masculinity representations, and historical analyses of sports norms.
Publications span journals in sports management, sociology, and history, with a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches. His work frequently explores the intersection of sports and societal power structures.
Teaching contributions include Sport Management courses since 2007, doctoral education, and teacher training programs. Collaborations include postdoctoral work at the University of Jyväskylä and guest lectures at the University of Bern.
Research highlights include leading projects on ice hockey’s evolving masculinity ideals and co-editing the journal Idrott, historia & samhälle. His 2024 publications address gender equity in sports governance and Cold War-era hockey hegemony.
Grants and advisory roles are embedded in his work with sports federations and gender equality initiatives. His lab/teams include the Centre for Feminist Social Studies (CFS) and transnational research networks exploring men’s studies.
