Kit Windows-Yule

Kit Windows-Yule is an Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, affiliated with the School of Chemical Engineering and the Positron Imaging Centre (PIC). He holds a Turing Fellowship and is a two-time Royal Academy of Engineering Industrial Fellow. His research focuses on multiphase systems, particulate dynamics, and the development of experimental and numerical methodologies such as Positron Emission Particle Tracking (PEPT), X-ray Tomography, and Discrete Element Method (DEM) modeling. He collaborates with industries like Johnson Matthey, AstraZeneca, and Mondelez to solve complex engineering challenges.

Kit earned his MSci in Physics (2010) and PhD in Physics (2015) from the University of Birmingham. He has held postdoctoral positions at the University of Twente (Netherlands) and Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (Germany), enhancing his expertise in numerical methods and additional experimental techniques. He returned to Birmingham in 2018 to assume his current academic role.

His research interests include granular segregation, convection in fluidized systems, and the development of novel imaging algorithms for X-ray and optical systems. He is a core member of the Birmingham Plastics Network, an interdisciplinary initiative addressing global plastic sustainability through collaboration across engineering, environmental science, and social sciences.

Kit’s publications span topics like granular energy dynamics, segregation mechanisms, and multi-phase flow modeling. His awards reflect his contributions to bridging academia and industry. His teaching includes modules on multiphase systems and foundational engineering skills.
