Kirpal SINGH

Kirpal SINGH is the Director of the Wee Kim Wee Centre at Singapore Management University (SMU) since 2008. A pivotal figure in SMU's founding, he contributed to pioneering programs such as the mandatory Creative Thinking and Communication curricula, and shaped admissions policies emphasizing holistic evaluation over traditional grading. He played a key role in establishing the Arts and Culture Management program and the Singapore Writers Festival at SMU. With over 30 books and 150 scholarly articles, his work focuses on future studies, cross-cultural dynamics, and innovative pedagogy.

Education: Holds an Honours degree from the University of Singapore (1973), a master’s degree, and a PhD from the University of Adelaide (via Colombo Plan scholarship). Previously led NTU’s Division of Literature and Drama, advocating for creativity in education.

Research emphasizes preparing graduates for future challenges through interdisciplinary approaches. His vision for SMU’s graduates includes strong communication skills, cultural awareness, and resilience, as reflected in programs like the Creative Thinking module taught via unconventional methods (e.g., overnight workshops).
