Low Aik Meng

Professor Low Aik Meng served as the Founding Dean of Students at Singapore Management University (SMU) from 2000 to 2011. He played a pivotal role in shaping SMU's holistic educational philosophy, emphasizing leadership, team-building, and community service. He championed initiatives such as the CIRCLE Values (Commitment, Integrity, Responsibility, Collegiality, Leadership, Excellence), mandatory community service programs, and the development of student-led clubs and activities.

Research & Contributions: Professor Low spearheaded the creation of SMU’s student-centric culture, including the freshmen leadership camp, SMU Ambassadors program, and residential life initiatives. He established the Dean of Students Award and AM Low Trailblazer Award to recognize student contributions beyond academics. His work fostered a 'family' environment bridging faculty and students, with strong emphasis on ethics and social responsibility.

Awards: He received the Singapore Government’s Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2010 for his dedicated service.

Legacy: Under his leadership, SMU introduced innovative programs like overseas community service loans, internships, and the Business Study Mission. He also oversaw the establishment of SMU Residences to promote student integration and international talent retention.
