Professor Kiran Trehan serves as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise, Partnerships and Engagement at the University of York, leading the strategic initiative 'Local commitment on a global scale.' She drives regional economic development across Yorkshire and Northern England through university partnerships while expanding educational access opportunities.
Her research focuses on leadership dynamics, enterprise development, and diversity within small business ecosystems. As Director of the Centre for Women’s Enterprise, Leadership, Economy and Diversity, she pioneers translational research that bridges academic theory with policy implementation and community co-production.
Research funding secured includes:
- Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC)
- Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)
- UK government departments
- Local Enterprise Partnerships
- Chambers of Commerce networks
- Private sector collaborations
She served as President of the Institute for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (2019) and led the West Midlands Leadership Commission, whose policy report received Prime Ministerial commendation.
