Dr. Kevin Smith is an Associate Professor and Program Coordinator for the Master of Science in Educational Technology (MSET) at Dakota State University's College of Education & Human Performance. He holds a Ed.D. in Instructional Design and Technology (2017) from the University of Memphis, M.Ed. in Instructional Technology (1999) from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and B.S.Ed. in Mathematics Education (1993) from Dakota State University.

His research focuses on integrating technology into K-12 education, particularly in mathematics and STEM fields. He has received awards including the DeWayne Mork Award for Service (2021), Ernest Teagarden Teaching Award (2018), and recognition as a top DSU alumnus (2019).
Dr. Smith has secured grants such as a $750K NSF/EPSCoR grant (2014–2019) and a NSA Cyber Education grant ($258K, 2017–2018). He mentors students like Jessica Dawson (2018 Research Winner) and actively publishes in journals like Contemporary Educational Technology and ASCD Express.
He is certified in Google Education, Nearpod, and multiple educational platforms. Beyond academia, he authored the children’s book Yucky! and operates an illustration business with his daughter.
