Dr. Katie Anderson is an Assistant Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator for the Teacher Education Department at Dakota State University’s College of Education & Human Performance. She specializes in evidence-based reading methods and educational technology research. Dr. Anderson holds an E.D. in Reading and Literacy Leadership from Walden University (2019), an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Black Hills State University (2010), and a B.S. in Elementary Education from the University of South Dakota (2003). She is Nationally Board Certified and a former South Dakota Teacher of the Year (2013).
Her research focuses on literacy education, teacher satisfaction, and effective teacher preparation. She has led initiatives such as the South Dakota Literacy Framework and contributed to grants totaling over $750,000, including a National Science Foundation award. Dr. Anderson’s awards include the 2024 Ernest Teagarden Award for Excellence in Teaching and recognition as one of South Dakota’s “20 to Watch in 2020.”
Her teaching spans courses like Evidence-Based Reading for K-8th grades and Research Methods in Educational Technology. She actively engages in professional development workshops, such as the Science of Reading training for educators and parent literacy programs. Dr. Anderson advocates for equitable access to high-quality literacy education and addresses systemic challenges like teacher pay through research and policy advocacy.
