Kevin Melendez is the Department Head and Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting and Information Systems at New Mexico State University's College of Business. His expertise spans accounting, auditing, and financial reporting. He holds a Ph.D. in Accounting (with a minor in Finance) from the University of Arizona (2004), a Master of Accounting (2000), and a Bachelor of Accountancy from New Mexico State University (1998).
His research focuses on fair value measurements, audit materiality, earnings management, and the impact of accounting practices during financial crises. Notable works include analyses of serial acquirers' financial strategies, the reliability of fair value disclosures, and qualitative aspects of audit materiality.
Melendez's publications appear in journals like Journal of Finance and Accountancy, Review of Accounting Studies, and Qualitative Research in Accounting & Management. His ongoing research includes studies on ethical leadership in higher education, economic development bonds, and the timeliness of governmental financial reporting.
He teaches courses such as Introductory Financial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Governmental Accounting, and Financial Statement Analysis at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
