Kevin Hekmatpanah, D.M.A., is a Professor of Music at Gonzaga University, where he has taught since 1994. He serves as Director of the String Program and Music Director of the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra. His career spans over 120 solo concerto appearances across North America, Europe, and Brazil, with notable performances at festivals like Piccolo Spoleto, Dame Myra Hess Concert Series, and Classical Music Festival in Vienna. He is also a conductor with leadership roles in orchestras such as the Okanogan Valley Orchestra and Project Joy Orchestra.

Hekmatpanah’s research interests focus on cello performance, chamber music collaboration, and orchestral conducting. His interpretations of works by composers like Beethoven, Bach, and Shostakovich have been praised for technical mastery and emotional depth.
He has received multiple awards, including prizes in the Beethoven Club Young Artists’ Competition and the Virginia Chapter of the National Society of Arts and Letters Competition, alongside Gonzaga’s Exemplary Faculty Award for Academic Citizenship.
As an educator, Hekmatpanah has taught applied cello, music history, and symphony orchestra courses. He previously taught at Middle Tennessee State University and the Governor’s School for the Arts.
He has conducted workshops and adjudications globally and led orchestras like the Gonzaga Symphony Orchestra (24 seasons) and the Okanogan Valley Orchestra (5 seasons), securing a National Endowment for the Arts grant for a commissioned premiere.
