Kevan Polkinghorne is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Monash University, affiliated with Monash Health. He holds a PhD in Medicine (2007), a Master of Biostatistics (2021), and a Master of Clinical Epidemiology (2006) from Monash University. His earlier qualifications include an MBChB from the University of Auckland (1993) and a FRACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians, 2000).
His research focuses on kidney disease, cardiovascular outcomes, and chronic care management, with a particular emphasis on frailty in older adults with chronic kidney disease (CKD), infection-related complications in vasculitis, and the impact of interventions like aldosterone blockade and exercise programs in end-stage renal disease. He leads major clinical trials such as the ACHIEVE study and the PHOSPHATE trial.
Polkinghorne has published extensively in journals like Kidney International Reports and Nature Communications, with recent work analyzing disease burden using the Global Burden of Disease framework and exploring interdisciplinary care models.
