Kenneth Marians is a Professor at the Gerstner Sloan Kettering Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences, part of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, with affiliations in the Department of Molecular Biology and the Biochemistry & Structural Biology program. His research bridges biochemistry and molecular genetics, focusing on DNA replication and genome stability.

His research investigates how the replisome responds to replication fork blockages and how chromosomes are condensed and segregated during cell division. His lab uses in vitro reconstituted systems with purified proteins to model these processes, having recently transitioned from bacterial to human replication systems. Key areas include replication-transcription conflicts, human replisome reconstitution, and MukBEF-mediated DNA translocation.
Dr. Marians has received numerous honors, including the NIGMS MERIT Award, the MSK Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Biomedical Research, and election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He holds the William E. Snee Chair and was awarded an honorary D.Sc. from the Gerstner Sloan Kettering School in 2019.
He is actively involved in training and research, advising graduate students through the Tri-Institutional PhD Programs. His lab is supported by major grants from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, including the Outstanding Investigator Award. He leads a vibrant research team focused on mechanistic biochemistry of DNA metabolism.
His lab is part of the broader research ecosystem at Memorial Sloan Kettering, collaborating across disciplines to understand fundamental mechanisms of genome maintenance.
