Keith J. Bybee

Keith J. Bybee is the Paul E. and Hon. Joanne F. Alper ’72 Judiciary Studies Professor at Syracuse University, holding tenured appointments in both the College of Law and the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He directs the Institute for the Study of the Judiciary, Politics, and the Media (IJPM), a collaborative initiative involving the College of Law, Maxwell School, and S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and serves as Senior Research Associate at the Campbell Public Affairs Institute.

His research spans judicial behavior, constitutional interpretation, and media-law intersections, with notable expertise in minority representation, civility in public discourse, and the politics of judicial ethics. Bybee examines how courts interact with political institutions and media ecosystems, currently leading a grant-funded project on the constructive applications of misinformation.
