Stephan Stohler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. His research focuses on constitutional law, free speech, and judicial behavior across comparative contexts including India, South Africa, and the United States.

Research examines intersections between rights litigation, constitutional development, and political regimes. Recent work explores extremist speech tolerance, judicial power dynamics, and affirmative action's partisan origins.
Active in academic service as reviewer for multiple journals and presses, including American Political Science Review and Cambridge University Press. Key grant recipient: 2025 SUNY Faculty Research Award for 'Testing Rights Talk' project.
