Katie Sveinson is an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (2022-present), previously serving at Temple University (2019-2022). She holds a PhD in Sport Management from the University of Regina (2019), an MS in Kinesiology (2014), and a Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Studies (2012), all from the University of Regina, Canada.
Her research focuses on sport consumer behavior, sport fandom & marketing, qualitative methodologies, and social semiotics. She employs critical discourse analysis and phenomenological approaches to explore gender dynamics in sport, including fan experiences, merchandising semiotics, and workplace inequities. Recent studies examine mothers' sport spectating practices, gendered marketing strategies, and women's marginalization in sport organizations.
Dr. Sveinson has been recognized with the Isenberg School of Management Outstanding Research Award (2022-23) and NASSM Research Fellow designation (2023). Her work addresses systemic barriers faced by women in sport through qualitative rigor and feminist frameworks.
