Her research and creative work focus on documentary-style poetry, narrative and lyrical exploration of personal and historical themes, and the intersection of women’s literature with modern American poetry. Her practice often connects disparate ideas—such as historical events and intimate human experiences—to create emotionally urgent and socially reflective works.
Key trends in her poetry include themes of survival, emotional resilience, historical memory, familial relationships, and societal critique. Her works often blend personal narrative with broader cultural and historical contexts, as seen in poems like The Thing Worth Saving and The Ferryman, which juxtapose intimate family moments with global tragedies.
