Virgil Suarez is a Professor of Creative Writing and Latino/a Literature at Florida State University's Department of English within the College of Arts and Sciences. He holds an MFA from Louisiana State University (1987). His work spans poetry, fiction, and nonfiction, focusing on Cuban-American experiences, diaspora narratives, and transnational identity.
Key research interests include creative writing pedagogy, Latino/a literary traditions, and the intersection of poetry with political and cultural themes. His publications include over 15 books such as 90 Miles (2005), The Painted Bunting's Last Molt (2020), and The Soviet Circus Comes to Havana (2014). His work has been featured in prestigious journals like The Kenyon Review and anthologies like the Norton Anthology of Latino/a Literature (2010).
