Kathryn Wagner is an Associate Professor in the Psychology Department at Gallaudet University's Human Services and Sciences School. Her work focuses on clinical psychology with an emphasis on Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) populations, LGBTQ+ health advocacy, and inclusive training practices. She chairs doctoral committees and advises multiple clinical psychology students.
Her research explores barriers faced by DHH individuals in clinical training, mental health disparities among LGBTQ+ communities, and disability-informed therapeutic practices. Notable contributions include studies on food insecurity in DHH populations during the pandemic and medical discrimination faced by LGBTQ+ people with disabilities.
Awarded the 2024 McCay Vernon Outstanding JADARA Article Award for her work on DHH psychology students' educational barriers, she also contributes to Gallaudet's diversity initiatives through committee roles like co-chair of the Psychology Department Diversity Committee. Her clinical practice emphasizes trauma-informed care for transgender clients and culturally-responsive ASL communication.
Current projects include developing inclusive pedagogy frameworks through a Deaf lens, mentoring the MotherScholar Collective for academic parents with disabilities, and advancing queer research methodologies. She maintains licensure as a clinical psychologist in Washington, D.C., and engages in ongoing ASL proficiency development.
