Kathryn Huisinga

Kathryn Huisinga is Professor of Biochemistry in the College of Natural and Health Sciences at Malone University, where she also serves as Director of the Honors Program and Fulbright Advisor.

Her academic background includes:

• Ph.D. from The Pennsylvania State University
• B.S. from the University of Iowa

Her research focuses on Biochemistry with strong emphasis on STEM Education and increasing diversity in STEM fields. She actively participates in the Malate Dehydrogenase CURE Community (MCC) to integrate authentic research experiences into undergraduate classrooms, demonstrating her commitment to innovative pedagogy and inclusive science education.

She received the 2019 Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching in recognition of her exceptional educational contributions.

As Honors Program Director, she guides high-achieving students through advanced academic pathways, while her Fulbright Advisor role supports students pursuing international research opportunities. Her leadership in the MCC exemplifies her dedication to transforming undergraduate science education through research-integrated curricula.
