Kathleen McKay is a Lecturer at the University of Hull, affiliated with the School of Humanities and the Creative Writing group. She specializes in fiction, poetry, and short story narratives. Her research explores themes such as urban culture, family dynamics, and literary heritage. She has authored two novels, poetry collections, and numerous short stories, contributing to the short story strand at the University of Hull.
Her notable works include the novel Hard Wired (2016) and the co-edited book End Notes (2017), funded by the AHRC. She has been awarded for poetry, short stories, and a crime novel. Her academic contributions include analyses of writers like Flannery O'Connor and Tim Winton.
Kath led the AHRC-funded project Project Crossing Over: New Narratives of Death (2017, £20,239), exploring mourning and commemoration. She supervises practice-led poetry PhD students and is part of the Larkin Centre for Poetry and Creative Writing.
