University of California, Berkeleyمعرفی
Katherine Snyder is an Associate Professor of English and Director of Berkeley Connect in English at the University of California, Berkeley. Her research focuses on 20th- and 21st-century British and American literature, with a particular emphasis on gender & sexuality studies, narrative structures, and post-9/11 fiction. Her first monograph, Bachelors, Manhood, and the Novel, 1850-1925 (1999), examines modernist narrative through the lens of masculinity. Her current project, Novel Traces: Rewriting the Past in the Post-9/11 Present, analyzes how contemporary novels rework canonical texts to reflect post-9/11 cultural anxieties.
Her research interests include intertextuality, trauma studies, and post-apocalyptic narratives. Snyder has published widely on authors such as Margaret Atwood, Teju Cole, and Joseph O’Neill, with a focus on how contemporary literature engages with historical and literary precursors. She has presented her work at international conferences including MLA, ACLA, and ASAP, and her reviews appear in venues like publicbooks.org and American Literature.
In teaching, she emphasizes close reading and interdisciplinary approaches to literature, guiding students through Berkeley Connect programs. Her office hours are by appointment, and she can be reached at ksnyder@berkeley.edu.
