Ida Yalzadeh is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of California, Berkeley. Her interdisciplinary scholarship bridges diplomatic history, Asian American Studies, Critical SWANA Studies, and Iranian Diaspora Studies, focusing on the racialized intersections of empire and migration.
Her research explores transnational racialization processes, particularly through the experiences of Iranian foreign nationals in the U.S. from 1953 to 2001. The forthcoming article Post-Revolutionary Iranians in the Philippines (2025) and the 2024 Diplomatic History piece on Cold War surveillance exemplify her emphasis on decentering U.S. narratives in diaspora studies. Other works engage with liberatory pedagogy, post-9/11 identity formation, and 1970s Iranian student activism.
