Mark Goble is a Professor in the Department of English at the University of California, Berkeley. He holds a Ph.D. from Stanford University and joined Berkeley in 2008 after teaching at UC Irvine. His research explores intersections between literature and media technologies from the late 19th century to the present. Goble has authored Beautiful Circuits: Modernism and the Mediated Life (2010) and is preparing Downtime: The Twentieth Century in Slow Motion (forthcoming 2024). His current project examines post-Hollywood novels and old media persistence.
He has published essays in journals such as Diacritics, ELH, and American Literature, focusing on themes like temporal studies, media ecologies, and cultural theory. Goble served as Past President of ASAP: The Association for the Study of the Arts of the Present. His teaching emphasizes 20th- and 21st-century American and British literature, film, and critical theory.
