Katherine Hollander is a Lecturer in the Department of English and Department of History at Tufts University, School of Arts and Sciences. She specializes in modern European history, intellectual history, and poetry writing. Prior to Tufts, she held positions as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the University of Hartford and a faculty fellow at Colby College. Her interdisciplinary work bridges historical and literary studies.
Dr. Hollander holds a PhD and MA in modern European history from Boston University (2015 and 2006, respectively), and a BA from Marlboro College (2002).
Her research focuses on modern European history, including gender, labor history, socialism, and Central European contexts. She also explores German literary and drama history, particularly Brecht, alongside her creative writing in poetry. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches, integrating historical methodology with poetic craft.
Her publications include the poetry collection My German Dictionary (2019, Anthony Hecht Poetry Prize winner), an edition of Brecht’s Mother Courage and Her Children (2022), and an upcoming monograph on Brecht’s collaborations and exile (2025).
