Prof. Dr. Katharina Meng is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Mannheim and a former researcher at the Institut für Deutsche Sprache (IDS) in Mannheim. Her research focuses on language acquisition, language biographies, German-Russian language contact, and discourse analysis. She held leadership roles, including heading the 'Sprachliche Integration von Aussiedlern' project and serving as a guest professor at universities in Bielefeld, Salzburg, and Clark University (USA).
- Education: Studied Germanistics, Slavic Studies, and Adult Education at the University of Leipzig (1955–1960). Completed her habilitation on child language and kindergarten communication at the Zentralinstitut für Sprachwissenschaft (DDR).
- Awards: Received the Peter-Roschy Prize in 2017, 2020, and 2023, and the Hugo-Moser Prize. Honored with a venia legendi (teaching qualification) in German Linguistics (1994).
Her work bridges language policy, migration linguistics, and sociolinguistic discourse analysis. She contributed significantly to understanding multilingualism and communication dynamics in German-speaking communities.
